Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Shopify Markets and Managed Markets ?

Markets is a cross-border management tool that helps you identify, set up, launch, optimize, and manage your international markets - all from a single store. With Markets, you can create customized online shopping experiences for different customer segments.

Markets is ideal for merchants who want control over their international operations but are fine with handling the complexities themselves, such as configuring taxes, shipping, and localization manually.

Managed Markets expands the capabilities of the cross-border management tools that are offered by Markets.

Managed Markets is Ideal for merchants who want to expand globally without dealing with the challenges of managing international operations on their own, outsourcing the complexity to experts and third party partners.

Am I eligible to Managed Markets?

To be eligible to upgrade to Shopify Managed Markets, your business needs to meet the following requirements to use Managed Markets:

  • Your business needs to be based in the continental United States, exclusive of territories including Puerto Rico and Guam.
  • You need to use Shopify Payment
  • You need at least one fulfillment location that is based in the United States.
  • Your products need to meet the prohibited or restricted items requirements.
  • Your products need to meet the Managed Markets Shipping requirements.

What are my alternatives if I am not eligible to Managed Markets ?

If your business is not eligible to Managed Markets , Markets is the international alternative that allows merchants to choose cross border tools that are best suited for their business. Merchants have the freedom to work either with in-house developed features or choose third party services if they prefer (taxes configuration, shipping carriers, localization ...)

Are Markets Pro and Managed Markets the same?

Markets Pro has been renamed by the company to Managed Markets

Do I need to be Shopify Plus to upgrade to Managed Markets?

No. The only upfront cost to take your store global is the cost of your monthly Shopify plan.

Fees for Managed Markets or select paid features with other international tools are billed on a per-transaction basis as you make international sales. You’re also not locked into any contract periods so that you can try features without commitment.
